Here we are, topping off the first 50 songs of our 505 Favorite Country Single's of the 90's list. I don't know about you guys reading it, but it seems to be flying by for me!
Before we get into this weeks songs, I want to touch of a few topics.
- First, the BORN Country Facebook page has already blown up to just under 200 "Likes" in 2 weeks! I haven't looked into average page growth or anything, but that seems pretty awesome to me! Keep sharing, keep reading and liking! Heck, even TRACY LAWRENCE liked on the posts last week! How cool is that?!
- This past Thursday, Amy and I went out to Mansfield, OH to see Clint Black perform! It was my first time seeing him live and man, did he put on a great set! Clint was very funny and shared some great stories. His Willie Nelson impersonation is SPOT ON.
- This coming Tuesday, Darius Rucker's new album "Southern Style" hits stores. I've been listening to it all weekend and I recommend it! I was curious as to why there has yet to be a single following up "Homegrown Honey" released to country radio in anticipation of this album release. By no means is this an official reason, but Rucker's album actually SOUNDS like country music in comparison to a majority of the mainstream playlist right now. Time will tell!
- Starting this week, the "Song of the Day" on the BORN Country FB page will no longer be dedicated to 90's hits only. With the blog itself being based on my favorite decade of country music, for the majority, a more wide spread fan base on the FB page will help move us along in growth for better things to come in the future. (I have a lot of ideas!)
- Finally, the iHeartRadio Music Awards are airing tonight. While I will be recording the show, I will not be watching live, as tonight will be focussed on Wrestlemania and The Walking Dead. There are so many award shows these days, that its hard to really feel too strongly about any of them. I don't see Luke Bryan or Cole Swindell taking the trophies their respective categories this year, however in the "Country Song of the Year" category, I've got my fingers crossed for Eric Church.
Alright. Enough stalling! On to the countdown!
BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles Of The 1990's!!!
465. Alabama - Dancin', Shaggin' On The Boulevard
Album: Dancin' On The Boulevard
Year: 1997
My first memory of this song, is my laughter after hearing the lyrics back in 1997. A little film titled "Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery" had been released the same year and "Shagging" was introduced to my vocabulary. Being that I was 13 years old, I don't think I have to explain too much, haha. Anyhow, "Shaggin'" was one of Alabama's finally hits in the 90's and reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Country chart.
464. Chely Wright - Single White Female
Album: Single White Female
Year: 1999
Chely Wright hit the #1 spot on Billboard's U.S. Hot Country chart in 1999. Despite having not made the top of the charts before or since "SWF", Wright has written songs that were recorded by Brad Paisley, Clay Walker and others. Trisha Yearwood provided harmony vocals on the studio recording.
463. Vince Gill - You Better Think Twice
Album: When Love Finds You
Year: 1995
The "Guitar Slinger" took the 5th single from his album "When Love Finds You" to #2 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. Not all on this song, but Gill's album included backup vocals by what would now be considered an all-star lineup, including Amy Grant, Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless, Michael McDonald, Ricky Skaggs and more!
462. Andy Griggs - You Won't Ever Be Lonely
Album: You Won't Ever Be Lonely
Year: 1998
Andy Griggs hit the ground running upon his entry to the country music world. "Lonely" the first single from his first album climbed to the #2 spot on the Billboard country charts after 6 months on radio. Greg's first album also included a duet with country music's legendary outlaw, Waylon Jennings.
461. Mark Wills - I Do (Cherish You)
Album: Wish You Were Here
Year: 1998
The 90's saw a period in which a handful of country singles would also be recorded by pop/rock artists and released to radio as well. A lot of people will likely remember "I Do" as a single released by boyband 98 Degrees. This trend included two hit singles shared between John Michael Montgomery and All-4-One, Alabama teaming up with N'Sync and more. This Wills recording reached #2 on the Hot Country Chart.
460. Garth Brooks - Two Pina Coladas
Album: Sevens
Year: 1998
This Garth classic came in at #29 on CMT's 40 Greatest Drinking songs list. Brooks would follow this up with one more #1 and 2 other singles to round out the 90's.
*NOTE: While I always try to find the best videos for the blog, sometimes it is flat out impossible. This is a fan recorded video from a live concert.
459. Lee Roy Parnell - On The Road
Album: On The Road
Year: 1993
I can't imagine anyone who is reading this, has ever found the best way to think through, deal with, or just come down from something that has been bothering you than a nice long drive with some good music for a brief escape. While the issues being dealt with in this track are a bit heavier than the typical everyday person, this song hits it right on the head.
458. Jeff Carson - Not On Your Love
Album: Jeff Carson
Year: 1995
It may seem like Jeff Carson came and went almost immediately, but he started off as a sessions musician and demo recorder out of Missouri in the early 90's before receiving his own recording contract. Carson hit the Top 10 with 3 singles in a row, including this track (#1) through 1995 and 1996. Carson also saw some recognition when he covered Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" in 1997. Carson retired from country music in 2009 and is now working as a police officer in Franklin, TN.
457. Joe Diffie - If The Devil Danced In Empty Pockets
Album: A Thousand Winding Roads
Year: 1991
Man, do I love the sound of some good western swing music. I have seen Joe Diffie perform live twice, both being acoustic sets. If all plans align, I will finally get to see him perform with a full band come end of summer. While guys like Eric Curch, Big & Rich and Thomas Rhett are headlining the festival, Diffie still has me the most excited!
456. Clint Black - Put Yourself In My Shoes
Album: Put Yourself In My Shoes
Year: 1991
The harmonica intro followed by Clint Black's strong vocals always hook me immediately when this song comes on. While this is not one of his 19 #1 singles, (#4 Hot Country), the first single from his second album is still an essential piece of his collected works.
There we go! 50 songs into the 505 song countdown! I know this segment was a little heavy on the lesser knowns, but as we dive deeper and deeper, the songs will get bigger and bigger!
Don't forget to comment below, and then follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Spotify! Each week will be adding the new list to the ongoing playlist so you can take the countdown with you!
As I stated earlier, we are just under 200 "Likes" on Facebook now. The offer still stands from last week, when we reach 300 "Likes" I will post a 20 song edition of the weekly countdown blog as a way of thanking you!
As always, I appreciate your reading along and sharing your thoughts! Thanks!

Countdown Part IV: Songs 466-475
It's been a big week here at BORN Country! Last Sunday, 3/15, I started the official Facebook page for the blog and in that one week, we have already reached nearly 200 "Likes"! Make sure you check it out, like the page and share it with your friends and family!
474. Tracy Byrd - Holdin' Heaven
Album: Tracy Byrd
Year: 1993
Lawrence wasn't the only "Tracy" making a big splash in country music during the 90's! Tracy Byrd took his third single straight to the #1 spot on the Country Billboard chart in 1993. While "Heaven" was his only stop at the tippy top during the 90's, he released MANY memorable songs and came incredible close a handful of times. Byrd has now stepped away from the music scene for the past few years to spend time with his family.
473. Garth Brooks - One Night A Day
Album: In Pieces
Year: 1994
Garth steps away from his typical honky-tonk stylings for this jazzy song of lost love. The change in sound understandably leaves "One Night A Day" on the lesser known side of the Garth Hits catalog. If nothing else, Garth can claim one of the very few, and perhaps only saxophone solo in popular country music.
472. Toby Keith - Upstairs, Downtown
Album: Boomtown
Year: 1994
Personally, I feel that Toby's 1994 is somewhat relatable, as I, like the character in the song one day decided to leave the country area in which I grew up to experience the big city. Now, I didn't have as hard of a time as the gal in this song, but its certainly tough being away from the support of family and friends as you've been used to all of your life, in a place you don't know. Glad to have made the decision to come back to where I belong!... Twice! Ha!
471. Shania Twain - (If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!
Album: The Woman In Me
Year: 1995
In 1995, Shania Twain popped up on the country music scene and TOOK OVER. If Garth is the king of 90's country music, Shania has to be the queen. This was her second of seven #1's on the Billboard Country charts (U.S.) during the 90's. Twain would explode and become an international country/pop crossover mega star, worldwide by end of the decade.
470. Clay Walker - Where Do I Fit In The Picture
Album: Clay Walker
Year: 1994
Making his debut on the list, Clay Walker is one of the handful of artists still getting an occasional spin at radio, today. Previously the B-side to Walker's first single, "Picture" was his third song released to radio. The song peaked at #11, but Clay would have plenty more hits to come!
469. David Lee Murphy - Every Time I Get Around You
Album: Getting' Out The Good Stuff
Year: 1996
"Every Time" reached #2 on the charts, yet could still never touch the monster success of his first single. We'll get to that one much later down the road. Murphy has turned his focus to song writing more that recording since the early 2000's. He has found much success, having songs recorded by Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Thompson Square and fellow 90's star, Kenny Chesney.
468. Alan Jackson - Little Bitty
Album: Everything I Love
Year: 1996
Country Music Hall of Famer, Tom T. Hall wrote and recorded "Little Bitty" in 1996. Alan Jackson covered the track in the same year and took it to #1 on the Hot Country chart. While I love Jackson's take on the track, it's certainly worth your time to track down Hall's recording!
467. Ty Herndon - It Must Be Love
Album: Big Hopes
Year: 1998
Herndon's third and final #1 hit spent 26 weeks on the charts, including a peak of 38 on Billboard's overall Top 40 chart.
466. Tanya Tucker - It Won't Be Me
Album: Tennessee Woman
Year: 1990
On the heels of announcing that she has new music on the way, comes Tanya Tucker's first appearance on BORN Country's list! Tucker was one of the very few female country stars that carried the "Outlaw" image as Willie, Waylon and others did in the 70's. Tanya's long career has earned her 10 #1 singles on the U.S. charts since the early 70's. I can't wait to see what she comes up with in the near future!
Forty songs down!!! I will be knocking off a huge bucket list concert this week as Amy and I are seeing Clint Black this Thursday night! I will definitely be sharing photos and thoughts on the show later in the week, so stay tuned for that!
As always, please comment below or on the new BORN Country Facebook page! Don't forget to share, like, repost, reblog, Tweet, etc. with all of your friends, family and fellow country fans! As I stated before, if we hit 300 "likes" on Facebook by this time next week, I'll post up a huge 20 song entry to the 505 Favorite Singles of the 90's list!!!
Thanks for reading!

Now, here comes this week's portion of the countdown!
BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles Of the 1990's!!!
475. Tracy Lawrence - If The Good Die Young
Album: Alibis
Year: 1994
Lawrence landed his fourth #1 hit in a row from the album "Alibis" with this single in 1994. Previously, from the album, "Can't Break It To My Heart", "Alibis", and "My Second Home" all preceded. These are just 4 of the 8 #1 singles Lawrence would release throughout the 90's!
Countdown Part III: Songs 476-485
Another week has passed and we are back with another installment of BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles of the 90's! While I stated at the beginning that these songs aren't exactly in an order from favorite to least favorite, there will definitely be more well known songs the further we get down to it. I have also decided that the last 50 spots WILL be reserved for my absolute favorites of the decade, so that will be exciting!... In about a year! haha.
Here we go! Another 10 from the list! As always, comment below, follow the blog, share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other way that you can think of! Help get the word out to other readers! Enjoy!
BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles Of the 1990's!!!
485. Aaron Tippin - Working Man's PH.D
Album: Call Of The Wild
Year: 1993
During every one of his live shows (Non-acoustic), Tippin puts together a bicycle, piece by piece, on stage while performing this song in order to donate it to Toys For Tots. Although he has long lost count, his bike donation count is long past the 1,000 gift point. Very cool!
484. Lorrie Morgan - Watch Me
Album: Watch Me
Year: 1992
Lorrie Morgan had a steady run of hits throughout the 90's. Morgan was married to late country legend, Keith Whitley until his tragic passing. They're son, Jesse Keith Whitley is currently recording and attempting to break into the country music scene.
483. Doug Stone - Born In The Dark
Album: Faith In Me, Faith In You
Year: 1995
Shortly after Stone's #12 charting single, he suffered a nearly fatal heart attack in 1995, follow by a mild stroke in 1996. Despite few attempts since, battles with his personal life have kept him from much touring or recording since.
482. Sammy Kershaw - She Don't Know She's Beautiful
Album: Haunted Heart
Year: 1993
Despite hitting the Top 40 Country Billboard chart 23 times throughout the 90's, this is Kershaw's only #1 song in his career. However, this will NOT be the only time we see Sammy on this list!
481. Brooks & Dunn - A Man This Lonely
Album: Borderline
Year: 1996
I've stated elsewhere numerous times that Ronnie Dunn possesses the best voice in country music history. This song right here, is a prime example.
480. Pam Tillis - Shake The Sugar Tree
Album: Homeward Looking Angel
Year: 1992
Daughter of country legend Mel Tillis, Pam is another artist on this list with only one #1 single, despite having released a handful of successful singles. This song went to #3 though, being one of her most successful radio hits.
479. Dixie Chicks - I Can Love You Better
Album: Wide Open Spaces
Year: 1997
Dixie Chicks hit country radio strongly with their very first single in 1997. "Better" went to #7 on the Hot Country Billboard charts. The Chicks would go on to release 6 more singles in the 90's, which all would top their debut song.
478. Marty Stuart - Tempted
Album: Tempted
Year: 1992
Marty Stuart is a top contender on my "To see perform live" bucket list. Amy and I missed him by only one day during our trip to Nashville this past January, at the Opry. We plan on another trip down there soon, so we'll have to plan accordingly!
477. George Strait - So Much Like My Dad
Album: Holding My Own
Year: 1992
George Strait took the 2nd single from "Holding My Own" to #3 on the Billboard Hot Singles chart in 1992. Even when a song is this good, I suppose they can't ALL be #1's!
476. Chris LeDoux - Life Is A Highway
Album: One Road Man
Year: 1999
If you missed my post the other night, this past Monday was the 10 year mark since the sad passing of country and rodeo legend, Chris LeDoux. As the majority of his radio releases failed to reach even the top 40, this one was no different, topping out at #64. Despite chart performance, LeDoux's version of this Tom Cochrane hit is INFINITELY superior to the dreadful cover by Rascal Flatts in 2006.
There you have it! 30 songs into the list! I sure hope everyone is having as much fun reading about and revisiting the songs on this list as I am!
I have a pretty wild work schedule this week, so hopefully I will get to put in another mid week blog entry before the next edition of the countdown. Amy and I will be seeing another 90's country legend in concert NEXT week, so I can't wait to tell everyone about that one! HUGE bucket list concert!
As always, I thank you for reading and hope you will comment below and of course share the blog on all social media outlets! Help me get this blog out there, please! My Twitter and Instagram handles are below, so follow me there as well! Once again, thanks for reading and I hope to see you again next Sunday!!!

Chris LeDoux, The Dixie Chicks, Billy Dean
It's a little later than I planned, but as I promised yesterday on social media, I'm back with a mid(ish) week blog entry!!! I'm just looking to cover a few topics relevant to the week and country music, this evening. Don't forget, this Sunday with feature another 10 songs on my list of the top 505 songs in country music from the 90's!!!
* This past Monday, March 9th, marked 10 years since the unfortunate passing of rodeo and country music legend, Chris LeDoux. Some of you reading this may not be familiar with this man's work, but you should absolutely look into changing that. After winning many prizes in rodeo, LeDoux retired from the sport in 1980 to focus on his music career. Between 1971 and 1990, he wrote, recorded and sold his own music, completely independent from any label or marketing! He sold his records out of the back of his truck at rodeos and concerts! Incredible!
After mention in Garth Brooks' first single "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" LeDoux finally decided to take advantage and sign to a major label. While seeing very little radio support throughout the 90s, Chris continued producing music with 9 more studio albums before his passing in 2005 with Cholangiocarcinoma at the age of 56.
In 2005, Garth Brooks briefly came out of retirement to release a tribute song to his long time friend, "Good Ride Cowboy". As I said before, if you are unfamiliar with LeDoux's music, check it out. You will not regret it. A few songs will be popping up in the 90's countdown!!!

* 2 years and a day short of LeDoux's passing marks another memorable date in country music history. On the first date of their Top Of The World Tour, The Dixie Chicks were set to perform their hit, "Travelin' Soldier" in London, England. Lead vocalist, Natalie Maines stepped up to the microphone, and as most know, notoriously stated the following:
"Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
This statement lead to many fans turning away from the Chicks and the majority of the nation's radio stations followed suit. I've always been a fan of the Dixie Chicks and still enjoy their music today. I'm certainly not here to make political posts, but I hadn't realized that it had been 12 years since the now famous incident. I do wish the Chicks were able to make a comeback, as I believe country music NEEDS strong female acts, but it seems to be a case in which we will not see in a long time, if ever.
* On a lighter note, last weekend, Amy and I had the chance to see 90's country star Billy Dean perform at Keystone Elementary School in Lagrange, OH. The concert was held in charity to raise money for the local fire department. Billy played the majority of his hits throughout his acoustic set, including "We Just Disagree","If There Hadn't Been You", my favorite, "Billy The Kid" and many more. we lucked out with a last minute meet & greet with Billy before he went on. Despite being a bit rushed due to his needing to take stage, he came off as a very polite and kind guy. I would definitely see him perform again! This event takes place every year, and somehow I've been sleeping on it big time. Previous performers included Shenandoah, "Little" Jimmy Dickens, Collin Raye, Doug Stone and many others!
That about wraps it up for me tonight! I'm still working on the 10 songs for Sunday's 505 post, so stay tuned for that! Please comment below! Who remembers Chris LeDoux? Thoughts on the Dixie Chicks? Share, follow, Tweet, reblog, etc. and please help get BORN COUNTRY out to those who will enjoy it!!! I'm working on more features for the future along with the countdown of my 505 Favorite Country Singles of the 90s!

Countdown Part II: Songs 486-495
It's been a long week of battling a little ear-ache, work and other things, so I didn't get to make a mid-week blog entry, unfortunately. However, we are back with the another 10 songs on Born Country's list of 505 Favorite Singles of the 1990's!
But first, I must say a special "Thank you" to Diane Schumann for setting Amy and I up with a chance to see 90's country star, Billy Dean, last night! He put on a great set, and still has an awesome voice. He played just about everything I could've wanted to hear, but left out one minor hit. Diane was also able to get us a last minute chance to meet Billy! I'll share some pictures later this week!
Now, the list continues!
BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles Of the 1990's!!!
495. John Michael Montgomery - Cover You In Kisses
Album: Leave A Mark
Year: 1998
Starting this week's countdown with one of my favorite artist's of the 90's! While Montgomery easily had much stronger singles and success prior to this single, "Kisses" made it up to #3 on the country Billboard charts.
494. Collin Raye - I Think About You
Album: I Think About You
Year: 1996
Although I am not a father, I always loved singing along to this song whenever it came on the radio. I unfortunately missed out on a chance to see Collin perform last year, but hopefully he comes around again someday. "I Think About You" clocked in at #15 on Billboard's year end country chart in 1996.
493. Mila Mason - That's Enough Of That
Album: That's Enough Of That
Year: 1996
This was Mila's only real splash in the country music scene during the 90's. She reached #18 on the Country Billboard charts with this single, but had very little luck with anything that followed.
492. Travis Tritt - Tell Me I Was Dreaming
Album: Ten Feet Tall And Bulletproof
Year: 1995
Amy and I had the chance to see Travis Tritt perform an acoustic show late in 2014 from the 2nd row. He was incredible! Trott still has one of the best and most recognizable voices in country music. This is truly a case in which an artist has lost the spotlight, despite 100% still being deserving of it. I had never seen the video for this song until the writing of this post, and it turns out that there is a trilogy of videos based on this character played by Tritt. Imagine my confusion!
491. Vince Gill - Pretty Little Adriana
Album: High Lonesome Sound
Year: 1996
While I certainly understand the love for Vince Gill, the majority of his work in the 90's never really appealed to me when I was young. The killer guitar player and fantastic vocals didn't sync in until later on for me, but I still recall the few songs that really stuck out to me back then. I would love to see the guy perform live!
490. Clint Black - No Time To Kill
Album: No Time To Kill
Year: 1993
In 1989, there were 5 artists who released their first radio singles and exploded into country music. The "Class of '89" included Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Mary Chapin Carpenter and this man, Clint Black. Black was the first of the group to find immediate success, which followed him throughout the entire decade of the 90's
489. Alan Jackson - Little Man
Album: High Mileage
Year: 1999
Speaking of the "Class of '89", next up is Alan Jackson. Being my all-time favorite artist, I suppose it's only fitting that he be the first artist with 2 songs on the list! While I admit that I'm guilty of taking advantage of the convenience offered by Walmart and other major chain businesses, I always try to remind myself to also help out small businesses when I am able. This song will always be a true reminder that we need to support local businesses in order to not allow EVERYTHING to be taken over by the big guys.
488. Lee Roy Parnell - Heart's Desire
Album: We All Get Lucky Sometimes
Year: 1996
If any of these 10 songs this week receive a big "WHO?!" from readers, its probably going to be this one. Lee Roy had a number of radio songs throughout the 90's with a few nearly taking the #1 spot, including "Heart's Desire" which peaked at #3. Parnell's last released album came out in 2006, but he has not held a strong radio presence since the mid-90's.
487. Michael Peterson - Too Good To Be True
Album: Michael Peterson
Year: 1998
Ok, so if Lee Roy Parnell wasn't the one to not ring a bell, here comes Michael Peterson. Peterson is another artist who dropped a few successful hits to country radio, but as the years went by, sales slowed down leading to his final album in 2002. Peterson still performs at military benefits. This will NOT be the only time you see him on this list though!
486. Garth Brooks - It's Midnight Cinderella
Album: Fresh Horses
Year: 1996
Undoubtably, Garth is the KING of 90's country music. With that being said, referring to "Cinderella" as possibly one of Garth's weakest radio singles of the decade, is by no means degrading. It's catchy, easy to sing along to and just plain fun. Just like Alan and George, you can certainly expect to see a LOT more of Garth on our journey through these 505 songs!!!
There you have it! Another 10 songs down on my list of 505 Country Singles of the 90's! Hopefully this list is bringing back some memories for those of you who listened to country music in the 90s. For those that didn't, perhaps my list will help you dive into what in my opinion, was the best decade in country music history!
Stay tuned for my next post sometime mid week! I plan on writing a bit more on the Billy Dean concert, including pictures, and perhaps I'll finally get everything uploaded from the trip I took down to Nashville a couple months ago with Amy!
Please comment below! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the songs, and the blog in general! Who do you hope to see more of on the list? Is there anyone that you think shouldn't make the list from the 90's? I'm curious!!!
Follow, comment, share, Tweet, Facebook, Instagram(?) the blog to your friends and family who listen to country music! Share on message boards! Do whatever you can to help get BORN Country to those who would enjoy it! Thanks!

The Countdown Begins!
It's finally time! As promised, today's entry marks the beginning on my countdown of the 505 best country singles of the 90's! I decided to bump it up 5 extra songs just in the case that I missed something while making my list!
Originally, I intended for this list to be in order from my favorite to least favorite of the songs I chose. However, after months of attempting to find an order than I felt content with, I decided that instead, I would choose 10 songs a week at random and post them. I think this will also allow me to bring everyone a more solid list each week, featuring a mix big hits and more obscure songs.
Before we start, here are the rules I gave myself when picking songs:
1.They must have been a single released to radio. If this rule wasn't set into place, the list would only have room for Garth, Alan Jackson, George Strait and Brooks & Dunn. As great as that would be, that's not the idea here!
2. All songs must have been released to radio between January of 1990 and December of 1999. Obviously. Some songs may have been released on earlier or later albums, but as long as they hit the airwaves between the dates, they are fair game.
So, we might as well dive right in and get this list going! Please comment below! Let me know what songs you remember, love or hate, never heard of, whatever it is! Don't forget to follow the blog and find me on Twitter!
BORN Country's Top 505 Country Singles Of the 1990's!!!
505. Diamond Rio - This Romeo Ain't Got Julie Yet
Album: Close To The Edge
Year: 1993
The video for this song by one of the 90's greatest country bands has got it all. Huge feathered hair, key-tars, sparkly clothing, etc. "Romeo" reached #13 on the Billboard Country Charts.
504. John Anderson - I Fell In The Water
Album: Solid Ground
Year: 1993
John Anderson, probably best known for his huge success with "Swingin'" in 1982, found a touch of radio success in the early 90's. While "Water" climbed up to #13 on the Billboard Country charts, Anderson was only able to pass that point again 2 more times in his long career.
503. Alan Jackson - There Goes
Album: Everything I Love
Year: 1997
I'll throw this out here: Alan Jackson is my all-time favorite artist of any genre. You will be seeing a lot of his songs on this list. "There Goes" THAT.
502. David Kersh - If I Never Stop Loving You
Album: If I Never Stop Loving You
Year: 1997
This is a perfect example of "How did this guy not blow up?!" I think this is such a solid song and is s strong representation of what radio country should sound like. Unfortunately, after this single hit #3 on the Billboard Chart, Kersh never broke the Top 20 again despite being active in the industry until 2005.
501. Tim McGraw - Can't Be Really Gone
Album: All I Want
Year: 1995
Slowing it down a bit, we come up on one of the MEGA stars of country music. Although McGraw hasn't been doing much for me with his output over the last few years, his 2014 duet with wife Faith Hill, "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" was easily one of the best songs of the year. "Gone" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Charts.
500. Faith Hill - This Kiss
Album: Faith
Year: 1998
Speaking of Faith Hill, why not? The best memory that I have connected to this song, is when my dear friend Laurel sang it at the 8th grade talent show waaay back in 1998. While there was not instrumental version available and you could barely hear her singing along, it may be the only time I've ever experienced Laurel singing along to a country song, ha! "Kiss" reached #1 on the Country Charts and even hitting the Top 10 on the Hot 100 Chart, covering all genres. The video though... Real weird.
499. Mark Collie - Even The Man In The Moon Is Crying
Album: Mark Collie
Year: 1992
I'll admit, that I don't know much of Mark Collie's career, almost at all. Despite still being active in the country music industry, this was one of only two singles of his that hit the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Chart. I remember hearing this song on my AM/FM alarm clock at night, fairly often, but that is the extent of his career that I am familiar with.
498. Joe Diffie - Texas Sized Heartache
Album: Greatest Hits
Year: 1998
Man, what a talent. While Joe Diffie was huge in 90's, he should've been even bigger and still huge today. No, he's older and he doesn't LOOK like the guys who survived into present day country music like McGraw and Chesney, but he sure deserves more credit than mention in a Jason Aldean track. I thought for sure that Aldean's "1994" would blast Diffie back into the spotlight, as least for one single, but, nothin. Amy and I did get to see Diffie perform with Mark Chestnutt in late 2014, and he was awesome! Great to see these guys still chugging along despite getting no love from country radio.
497. Billy Ray Cyrus - Busy Man
Album: Shot Full Of Love
Year: 1998
Okay, I have a theory about Billy Ray's career, but I'm not going to talk about that quite yet. I believe the guy had some strong talent and got swallowed by his own success. We'll touch base on this later.
496. George Strait - If I Know Me
Album: Chill Of An Early Fall
Year: 1991
King George. While Alan Jackson is indeed my all-time favorite, George Strait has hands down shown the strongest longevity in country music possibly in the history of the genre. Strait has always been on the radio, and along with his newer recordings, he is one of the very, very few artists who still has his older catalogue titles getting airtime. Legendary.
Well, there we have it! 10 songs down and 495 left to go! The list will continue next Sunday. Please, please comment below, follow the Blog here on Blogger. Share iwasBORNcountry.blogspot.com on Twitter and Facebook! Let me know below what you like and dislike about the list!
I can't wait for feedback! Thanks for reading! Another general blog will be coming in a couple days! Thanks!
